Dogs get bored of a toy that only does one thing. This one squeaks in the body and crinkles in the legs, so shaking it and chewing it produce completely different sounds, and the long tentacles are what make it worth shaking at all. That combination of noise and movement is the closest a plush toy gets to behaving like prey, which is the bit that holds a dog’s attention past the first week. It is soft enough to carry around and sleep with rather than a hard chew, so think comfort toy with a bit of drama in it rather than something to leave with a determined chewer.
