Size and who it suits
The 65 litre drum is the reason this suits more than one cat. The stated range is 3.3 to 17.6 lb, which covers most adults including large breeds, and the 9 litre bin is what buys you up to around a fortnight between emptyings rather than a few days.
Six months is the lower age limit and worth respecting. Kittens can be light enough to confuse the sensors and are still learning what a box is for, so a plain open tray is the better start.
It also suits multi cat homes where the tray is contested. A self cleaning box does not remove the rule about having one more tray than you have cats; it just means each one stays usable.
Safety and how the cycle works
Four weight sensors and infrared detection both have to agree the cat has left before the drum turns, and the cycle stops if a cat steps back in. There are no internal openings for a paw or tail to find during rotation. Waste is sifted into the sealed bin below, which is what keeps the smell down rather than any fragrance.
Litter and maintenance
Clumping litter only, and keep the grain under 0.6 inches. Crystal and non clumping litters do not sift properly and will leave the drum coated. Fill to the marked line rather than overfilling, since too much litter is the usual cause of a jam. The drum lifts out for a proper wash.
Questions
Does it need Wi Fi to work? No. The app adds timed cleaning and usage tracking, which is genuinely useful for spotting a change in how often a cat goes, but the box cleans on its own without it.
How loud is it? The drum turns slowly. Most cats watch it rather than flee, though a nervous cat should meet it switched off for a few days first.
Will my cat use it? Put it where the old tray was and leave the old tray alongside for a week. Cats take badly to a tray vanishing overnight.
